An Amazing Six Months

Well, we have officially been in business for six months in our new Altoona location and I thought I better get my butt in gear and try out the whole blog thing. My mind is constantly full of ideas and things to share, and rather than continue to overwhelm Alyssa with my rapid-fire thoughts, I might get some of them out here!

This little business started as an idea many years ago. As you may know, I have dedicated over 22 years to a career in oncology (I’m not that old, I swear), but also have a passion for skin health due to our dad’s deadly experience with malignant melanoma. Prior to taking the first step towards opening my own medical esthetics business, I often questioned whether I was smart enough or bold enough, or worried whether people would support me or judge me. I finally, on a whim, took a chance on my first training (accompanied by my mom and sister, who are both nurses), and thought I would start a little fun side biz doing Botox and fillers. While this was fun, I wanted more (and honestly, you can find a nurse or NP everywhere you look that has completed the initial certification). I was passionate about doing more for skin health than just band-aiding some folds and wrinkles. I began looking more into skincare and other solutions that would improve the health and integrity of the skin, not just temporarily improve its appearance. I fell in love with SkinMedica and was shortly thereafter introduced to DiamondGlow and have grown from there as I gain knowledge and comfort in more advanced services. Results are of utmost importance to me, especially if my friends, family, and complete strangers are going to trust ME with the first part of their body people see!

I was ready to leave my full-time job in oncology just prior to the pandemic hitting, had a resignation letter typed up and everything. Then everything started closing down and my inner reasonable adult forced me to rethink my decision. However, the business continued to grow, I completed my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (literally the most mentally challenging thing I have done in my life), and my schedule could not fit anymore people in! I officially took the leap (sort of; I still work part-time in oncology because it really is a love of mine) and moved SkinFusion FX to Altoona and opened full-time April 1st! Best decision I have ever made, hands-down. I’ve made so many friends along the way (my clients really do become my friends!), and have had the opportunity to work with my sisters with occasional help on the business side from my mama! I’m close by for my almost grown-up boys, and can flex my schedule around their schedules while being able to offer outside-of-business hours for clients who are just as busy!

I am so thankful for every one of you and however you have supported SkinFusion, whether it be an appointment, a purchase, or an occasional like and share on social media! I look forward to what the next six months will bring and plan to bring you even more services, education, and skin health!
